Driving Lessons
Driving a stick shift is HARD I tell you.
We all know automatic transmission cars are the widely used cars these days, but not only is learning how to drive a manual car cheaper; if you know how to drive a manual car, then driving an automatic should be easy enough.
Guess how many times the engine shut down during the course of my driving. I didn’t count but I estimate it to be around twenty or so? And that was just during the first day.
Kuya Ivan was friendly and patient enough to bear with my driving and my errors. First, he let me “feel” the three pedals (i.e. the clutch, brake, and gas pedals) and the gearbox. Then he taught me the dos, like putting the gear to neutral when releasing the clutch, and don’ts, like quickly releasing the clutch (for not only will it cause the engine to shut down but also may cause the car to “shoot forward”).
Driving a few blocks around the area (near Espana and Forbes) was a little nerve-breaking but also, should I say it, fun. At least I didn’t bump any pedestrian, vehicle, or fixed object. And Kuya Ivan was there to guide me with the gears, pedals, and the turns.
I do not have driving lessons today. That blue Vios car is under coding.
And I was so excited to drive by myself to the Ateneo… Maybe that dream could take a very long while… :(
